Finding Cheap Hotels In Tenerife

Monday, December 7th, 2009

The island of Tenerife is one of the more attractive tourist and holiday vacations in Europe for those who are looking for a lot of sun and a great deal of beach-type recreation. Finding cheap hotels in Tenerife, in these economically challenged days we find ourselves in, can become particularly important if one wishes to continue going on holiday to this most beautiful of Spanish islands.

As a matter of geography and demographics, Tenerife is one of the Spanish-held Canary Islands. These islands lie off the coast of Africa on the Atlantic Ocean side. In particular, Tenerife is known for the quality of its resort areas and resort towns that cater to the holiday vacation or. 900,000 people call the island home and there are many hotels on the island at a decent price.

Tourism first began to become a significant activity on the island sometime in the’90s. Large numbers of people flock to certain northern towns, including Puerto de la Cruz and others, and it’s only gotten better since then. Nowadays, there are a large number of resort towns all around the island, though many congregate in certain areas, and a cheap hotel is a definite possibility with a little effort.

The cost for these rooms can range from $150 to $350 for a two day stay at a five star hotel all the way down to $50 to $200 for a three star hotel. These deals can vary greatly between hotels, Internet web sites and travel agents.

The best way to get a deal is to look online for the available rooms. They can offer you a variety of places, and also be able to let you take advantage of last minute cancellations. You may also want to charge this to your credit card so you can protect yourself on the off chance that the company goes bankrupt or you’re unable to go.

As far as prices go, a cheap hotel can be had for less than US$100 per night or less than that at certain times of the year. Remember, these are very basic but will generally be clean, neat and most likely just a short distance away from some of the better beaches and resort areas. Again; is a hotel room all that important when it’s only needed for short rest periods between the sun and the fun?

There are also many different pharaohs and their riches that are protected by the vigilant eyes of the museum security. Nowhere in the world can you see so much Egyptian treasure, but look carefully as you are not allowed to photograph any of the exhibits.

Cairo holiday site Khan Ali-Kalili Market is a traditional souk where for centuries merchants have been trading spices, fragrance, oils and jewelry. There is a revolving bar and restaurant at the top and you should definitely take some refreshment as you constantly see new views of the city. This is one spot where you should remember to bring your camera.

If you would like to see how large Cairo really is, a trip to the top of the Cairo Tower is worthwhile. You will have view on all sides to where the city meets the desert in the distance, and the pyramids are outlined against the afternoon sun,

Cairo is not only an ancient city though – it also has a thoroughly modern side. There are a number of shopping centers with all the latest clothing fashions and coffee shops. Holidays In Luxor – Discover Egyptian Culture

Friday, September 4th, 2009

The name Egypt conjures up pictures of Pharaohs and temple. Nowhere were these more common than in Luxor. The modern Luxor is built beside the Nile where the ancient city of Thebes existed. Today many tourists coming to Egypt plan holidays in Luxor as it is a good base for many nearby attractions. The level of accommodation ranges from five stars to much more budget options. Places of note to visit around Luxor include

The Karnak Temple which is also known as the Amun Temple Precinct. The precinct is built over a large area and has a number of temples. But the most important of these is the temple for Amun Ra. In Egyptian religion Amun Ra was a prominent figure.

The Valley of the Kings is located on the other side of the Nile from Luxor. It was here that the Kings were entombed. The most famous of the Kings here was Tutankhamen. In the valley are tombs of at least 63 kings and excavation continue. Of these only 18 are open to visit and not all 18 are open at any one time. The Valley of the Queens is where the Royal queens and children were laid to rest. For many these valleys are the prime destination when taking holidays in Luxor.

One attraction that is sometimes overlooked, but should not be, is the Open Air Museum. This is located in an area beside the Amun Ra Temple. There is a good collection of statues and a famous white Chapel.

The museum of Mummification has examples of human and animal mummies as well as displays of techniques and tools.

The Luxor Temple is a place that is perhaps visited at dusk or into the evening. Here lighting shows off the colonnades and carvings. There is the remains of an avenue of sphinx sculptures that once was three kilometres long and joined the Luxor temple with the temple of Amun Ra.

Fascinating Sights To See On Sofia City Breaks

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

This year’s vacations must include Sofia city breaks. Lovers of Russian culture will find a whole new world of both the old and the new in this modern city of over a million people. Sofia is the 12th largest city in the European Union, offering a lively nightlife and an enriching, historical experience. There are buildings and ruins dating back thousands of years. Put Sofia on your list of places you must visit.

Breathtaking ancient churches

Set among a beautifully attended garden is the 14th century Boyana Church. Inside is an astounding assortment of medieval frescos. This art is so susceptible to atmospheric conditions that tourists can only view them for 10 minutes. Replicas can be seen in a nearby museum. Then there’s the Aleksander Nevski memorial church, which was completed in 1924. It’s the country’s finest piece of Balkan architecture. The shimmering gold leaf inside was donated by the Soviet Union. It holds 5, 000 people.

Unbelievable Muslim heritage

Muslims were once persecuted by communists in Bulgaria. As a result, the Banya Bashi mosque, dating back to 1576, was left abandoned for many years. It fell into disrepair, but thanks to a grant by the European Union, the mosque is being restored and Muslims have claimed their rightful place within its walls. It is located a short distance away from the city’s mineral springs. Artifacts from the former Thracian civilization, along with Greek and Roman artifacts are displayed at another mosque in Sofia, the Buyuk Djami, which is open to the public.

Discover Bulgaria’s native animals

The Natural Science Museum, opened 1889, is situated on Sofia’s Boulevard Tsar Osvoboditel. Inside is a meticulously kept archive of Bulgarian wildlife, including lizards and snakes. Next to the museum is a fascinating Russian church with a glorious exterior of vivid tiles, several gilded domes and an amazing spire all in emerald. The 1913 church was built by a diplomat who was fearful that praising God in a Bulgarian church would send him straight to hell.

High on Sofia’s mountain

Mount Vitosha, famous for its natural vistas, natural hiking trails and winter sports is located just 7 km from Sofia’s city centre. Experience life with villagers as you make your way to the base of the mountain. You’ll stroll through villages in the foothills on the way to Mount Vitosha. Bring a picnic lunch and in the winter, make sure to pack your downhill or cross country skis. The lifts are open from late December to mid-March.
