Why Use Preferred Professionals?

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

When booking a venue for a wedding, corporate retreat, holiday party or other celebration, you may be directed to their list of preferred professionals. Preferred professionals are those companies the venue has worked with in the past.

There are several good reasons to work with preferred professionals:

* Trust. If you trust the venue to deliver on your wedding day or special event, you can trust their preferred professionals. These are companies the venue has worked with and had success with in the past. You can be confident the standards of the companies are equivalent to the standards of the venue you are booking.

* Instead of starting from scratch, trying to find a DJ, florist, caterer and more, you now have a refined list from which to choose. Set up appointments with at least a couple of them to make sure you are working with people whose personalities match your own.

* Relax and enjoy. You will get quality service. That’s why your venue chose them in the first place. Your venue has taken steps to ensure you are going to get the best quality service with an excellent reputation.

* As far as photographers and caterers go, you don’t have to worry about their level of professionalism on the day of the wedding. Photographers, being familiar with the venue, will know where the lighting is going to be best and which backdrops to use. Caterers will be familiar with the kitchen facilities and will ensure food is ready on time and to the level you would expect.

Using companies who are familiar with the surroundings, will ensure you get the best level or service. You can also sit back and enjoy your big day without worrying about the details. That’s for other people to worry about. Your venue will have you covered.

From weddings to celebrations to corporate retreats, there is a venue that reflects your personal sense of style. Once you have found that venue, trust their preferred professionals. Meet with them and find the ones that offer the flavors of food you want, or that understand your visions for your big day. Venues that work with preferred professionals should offer several choices so you can find someone that best understands your needs.

A Perfect Outdoor Wedding

Sunday, October 24th, 2010

The majority of brides want at least some aspect of their wedding outdoors. They envision sunsets, puffy white clouds and birds chirping around them. For some brides, this is a reality. Unfortunately for others, it’s not so pretty. Some brides have to face extreme drops or rises in temperatures that bring snow, hail, ice or heat waves that can cause dehydration, exhaustion, heat stroke and more. There is a simple solution to the risk of the outdoor wedding and that’s booking a courtyard wedding. Courtyard weddings have outdoor space for the ceremony or cocktail hour, but offer the safety net of an indoor room if weather chooses not to cooperate.

Let’s start with the ugly. You decide to have your wedding on a scenic ranch in Wyoming. Despite the fact that you are on a remote ranch, people driving down the backcountry road cheer and honk their horn during your ceremony. Your guests show up and so do the clouds. A storm breaks loose, rain crashes down, thunder and lightning have guests running to the nearest shelter: the barn.

Because this is a working ranch, there are livestock in the barn. The storm doesn’t appear as if it’s going to break any time soon. So, dripping wet, surrounded by the fragrant odors of horse dung and chicken droppings, you say your vows. It’s memorable, that’s for sure, but it’s definitely not pretty.

This is probably the worst that could happen. However, one problem that pops up all too often is the heat. Sunny days are what you prayed for and you got them. You got blue skies, not a cloud in the sky. It’s a still day and the humidity is thick. People sit patiently waiting as sweat stains their clothes.

Women cross and uncross legs, to try to let a little air cool them off. They use the program as a fan. Some men take off their jackets, but others are too embarrassed to and suffer through the heat. As the bride, all you can think about is how uncomfortable everyone is. You try to rush the ceremony, forget to kiss the groom and usher everyone to the nearby reception tent. If you didn’t think to set up a tent, then it will be a rough day for everyone.

The best scenario would be having a courtyard wedding. A courtyard is an outdoor space incorporated into a wedding venue. A portion of the ceremony can be held outdoors. If the weather gets ugly, there are no worries. It’s simply a matter of moving everyone inside. You are guaranteed peace and quiet and the feeling that this day only belongs to the two of you.

There doesn’t have to be stress involved on your wedding day. Take out the factors that could complicate it. Book a courtyard wedding so you’ll be covered no matter what the day brings.

5 Great Ideas When Considering Wedding Favors

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

With weddings come a lot of planning and time-consuming trial and error for every single detail. There are so many important factors to consider when choosing everything from the decorations, food, music, invitations, wardrobe and more. Another important detail to consider with any wedding are the wedding favors. Wedding favors are a traditional item that are special keepsakes that the guests can take home in order to have a nice reminder of the couple’s special day and always cherish how what those two special people mean to them.

Many couples these days try to steer clear of the same old boring candy-covered white almonds and are choosing to go for different ideas and more personalized favors instead. Spicing it up a bit can keep things fun for everyone and people tend to enjoy getting something trendy and unique as a wedding favor. Here are five great ideas that can help you get jump-started on choosing the best favors for your wedding day.

1. Toys and other fun stuff – No matter how old your guests may be they will always enjoy getting something fun and entertaining for a wedding favor. Such things as yo-yos, kazoos, carved wooden items and bobble head dolls that look like the bride and groom are just some of the fun things that could be given as favors. Your guests can take them home and actually use them and enjoy them for a long time. This is a great way for them to remember the time they shared with the bride and groom on their most special day.

2. Chocolate is always popular – You can never go wrong with chocolate and 99% of the time people really love it. These days you can even customize the candy into any size, shape or subject and fashion them into chocolate keepsakes. The possibilities are endless when it comes to designing a special chocolate favor. You could create some cute favors such a as chocolate flip flops for a beach wedding or bride and groom shaped chocolate favors. Usually if you hire a pastry chef or chocolatier to create the favors there is no limit on how creative they can get with your ideas.

3. Nothing wrong with a little tradition – The usual traditional favors include the white or multicolored Jordan almonds that can be re-wrapped in a nice favor container. Some couples prefer to give small boxes of truffles, chocolate hearts and other sweet and tasty delectables. Although many couples have tried to stay away from the old traditional methods, some do choose to side with them and simply add a few of their own touches to make them more personalized. For instance, decorating the outside of the candy box with photos of the bride and groom or using champagne glasses for the Jordan almonds are all nice touches and ways to embrace traditional methods.

4. Get personal – In order to ensure that your guests remember your wedding day, it is a good idea that you choose wedding favors that are expressions of your true style and favorite things. You can even choose to incorporate things that you enjoy together as a couple. Some couples choose to give key chains, a picture in an elegant frame, matchbooks, mugs and other items with their names and date of the wedding as well. You can also do beach towels, T-St-shirts, blankets, pillows and other neat keepsake items that your guests can cherish for years to come.

5. Go green – For those couples that have a thing for saving the environment you could give your guests flower bulbs that are nicely wrapped or even a baby tree for them to take home and plant. This is also a great idea because they can watch their flowers or tree growing and, as they do, they will always remember and think of you on your special day. You can pick a specific species of flower or tree and that way you will have control over the color of flowers that bloom or the type of tree that grows.

No matter what type of wedding favors that you choose, you can be sure that these days you will have hundreds of options from which to pick. Anyway, if your heart is really in it, no choice will really be a bad one.

The wedding invitations are important for all wedding plans. For the winter season, the wedding might be more formal, being held in a ballroom or other elegant setting. This would require a more formal invitation for the black tie event. The centerpieces will set the tone for the wedding dcor.

Candles, carved ice sculptures, and frosted glass can add to the elegance of the occasion. The music is crucial to setting the theme of the winter wedding. For a formal occasion, a classical pianist might be a good choice. An a capella quartet might also be fun for background music at your reception.

Things To Think About With An Outdoor Wedding Reception

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Outdoor wedding receptions are often dreamt about by young girls, and may include having the last light of day brighten up a dress or a kiss. Guests gather around to eat and celebrate and watch the day go down. As evening arrives, white lights sparkle as couples begin to dance in each other’s arms.

Adding an element of the outdoors is a common desire for many brides. It seems natural to commemorate vows between husband and wife under the skies they were born under. Finding the right wedding reception venue will only help turn a bride’s dream into a reality.

With so many options to choose from, making a few decisions first will help narrow down choices. The first questions to ask are how many people are coming? What time of year do I want my wedding? Is there a specific area of the country that I want to be married in (mountains, beaches, cities)?

Once that’s narrowed down, the next decision is how many people will be coming. Will this be an intimate affair of fewer than 50 people, or will it be a lavish celebration with hundreds of guests? This will be a big factor in finding a wedding venue. Most places have a limit of guests they can accommodate. So before you get your heart set on one location, be sure they can entertain as many guests as you’re hoping to invite. Also find out what alternatives there are if bad weather rolls in. Will you be in a tent, or is there an indoor space that would work?

Another decision is how much of your wedding day do you want to celebrate outdoors? Do you only want the ceremony outside and reception inside? Would you prefer dinner be served outside and dancing take place inside? Once that is decided, then it’s time to figure out what time the outdoor events will be happening. If you are having an afternoon wedding and only the ceremony is going to be outside, then you don’t need to worry about lighting. If, however, you are having your ceremony or dinner in the evening or when it’s dark out then lighting is going to be a huge consideration.

As far as lighting goes, there are several options. The first is figuring out what lighting the venue already provides. Some venues have gas lamps outside and fireplaces for ambiance and heat. Candles always give a romantic feel to the setting. Some places will have spotlights that light up trees and shrubbery. For an outdoor wedding reception, you may want to consider tiny white lights that can be strung through trees and bushes. If you have a favorite color, or want to incorporate the lighting into your color scheme, then think about using colored lights, or Chinese lanterns.

Outdoor weddings can take place year-round in places like Arizona, California or Florida. Keep in mind the night will cool off, so it’s important to have ways for guests to keep warm. Finding venues that have outdoor fireplaces become a great place for guests to congregate and get to know each other.

Taking a tour – virtual or physical – of the venue for your outdoor wedding reception is going to help you visualize if your color scheme will work with the features of the venue. There may be herringbone brick floors, or a certain flower blooming at that time that you may want to use to accentuate your color scheme. No matter what you choose, having at least some part of your ceremony outside is a beautiful way to celebrate your union.

The Start – End of the Wedding Cake Topper World

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Congratulations! You would like a topper to position on the very top of your great wedding cake. Wedding cake toppers are certainly a popular accessory these days. As an example, consider the following search topics that people are typing into today’s search engines:

wedding cake topper vintage wedding cake toppers western wedding cake toppers bride and groom wedding cake topper personalized wedding cake topper contemporary wedding cake toppers inexpensive wedding cake toppers

Do you know what wedding cake toppers are? That’s a fair question. Not many individuals know what wedding cake toppers are, but they are those tiny “figures” or “statues” that position themselves on top of a wedding cake. They seem to shout out “Notice Me…I’m Something Really Fantastic…I Matter!”. From their humble beginnings there is a tremendous variety of toppers available today. Let’s spend a few minutes learning their history…

Now that we are done with the description, let us turn our focus to the history. Although no accurate records exist of the first time a person put a little figure on top of a wedding cake, we do have various traditions. One very popular tradition states that a woman was engaged and getting married, and she was trying to determine some way in which she could exhibit the extreme love that she and her husband to be shared for each other. Her father happened to be the baker in the village in which she lived, and she gave him a task. Because he was a baker he naturally baked a wedding cake, but he one step further and added a little model to the extreme top of the cake. He positioned a model of his daughter and future son-in-law on top of the cake. He did this to show off the love that these two young people shared for each other as they started their new life together.

Is this an actual story? Perhaps. Is it fictional? It might be. Does it foreshadow the prominence that the cake topper would have on not only the wedding cake but the big day? Without a doubt. This simple baker of cakes probably had no idea what a trend he had begun. What we now call the wedding day would never be the same again…

When you think of the 1950’s what do you think? King Elvis and Good ole’ & Roll right? Well cake toppers were destined to become more popular than ever during these years as soldiers returning from the war started to settle down and raise families.

Today we see that wedding cake toppers are as popular as ever. Figures have changed somewhat to reflect changes, but they are still popular none-the-less. In this world in which we live you can get wedding cake toppers that depict mixed race marriages, and same-sex marriages as well. Many humorous toppers are being sold these days. One depicts the bride grabbing her hapless groom by the collar…preventing him from getting away. Another depicts her dragging him back to the altar after he has run off. Brides Involve Their Grooms

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Do I really have to do this?

The pre-wedding test causes many Bridegrooms to utter questions just like this.

Ladies are famous for their excitement over their weddings, but their Men are also known to be less thrilled. Some Men complain of feeling uncomfortable during the pre-wedding process and activities. Are they less social or less emotionally expressive?

Think about all the traditional events that Bridegrooms may face as they plan for their weddings. It is traditional for the Men to find their prospective brides ; ask for a date; pay all the bills as they court; meet the brides ‘ parents and friends; make a good impression on everyone; develop vibrant relationships with the brides ; ask the ladies to agree to get married; ask the fathers of the ladies for the hands of the fiances’ ; announce engagement; attend pre-wedding showers; attend pre-wedding parties; attending wedding counseling; participating in wedding rehearsals; dressing up in formal penguin suits; get through the wedding ceremony; survive the wedding rehearsal; doing everything right without getting upset; even paying for the honeymoon.

Grooms may feel like they are enduring a seemingly endless series of tests before they can even think about actually getting married. Why would anyone face this kind of pressure by choice?

As a minister, I make it a practice of meeting with ladies and Men a month or so before the wedding. In a majority of the situations, the ladies are all excited and full of ideas. The ladies come with questions and notebooks ready to lay out every detail. Often Grooms come along with their fiances’ and sit there with blank stares.

I discovered, that Men have their own ideas, but they may hesitate to share their thoughts, feelings, and interests. For this reason, after listening and interacting with the ladies ; I turn to the Bridegrooms and begin asking open ended questions to uncover their thoughts.

Bridegrooms sometimes express the idea that the wedding is for the brides . Bridegrooms may even say they are just along for the ride. Bridegrooms do not want to ruin the dreams of their fiances’ . They do not stifle the excitement and hopes of their ladies .

Great ideas and deep seated feelings are often held by Men . Expressing these with sensitivity is an art. It takes some thinking, listening, and dreaming as well as careful open communication.

The wedding planner or coordinator, the wedding minister, and the fiances’ can greatly help support the Men by early planning, effective listening, and genuine efforts to include the Grooms in every phase of the process. The better Men feel about being part of their own pre-wedding and wedding; the more likely they will enjoy successful marriage.

Little girls begin dreaming of their wedding day soon after they learn to walk and talk. Bridegrooms , on the other hand, begin thinking of their wedding day when they find their dream girl. It takes a little time for Bridegrooms to catch up, but it is important for marriage to make sure Grooms are included in the process.

Impress The Crowd With Entertaining Best Man Speeches

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

Best man speeches are supposed to be entertaining, funny and emotional. If you get picked to be the best man, then coming up with an awesome speech is one of your most crucial jobs. A best man speech will be remembered by the wedding guests for a long time, whether it was extremely funny or embarrassingly bad. Therefor it is essential that you take the time to organize your best man speech and make it the best it can be. For the sake of the bride and groom, don’t try to deliver your speech from the top of your head!

The intent of the best man speech is both to honor the groom, but also to compliment the bride and in general, just demonstrate how perfect they are for one another. Be sure to include in your best man speech some witty jokes to keep the wedding guests interested instead of falling asleep. If you decide to make fun of the groom, make sure you do it in a tasteful and respectful way.

It is important that your best man speech can be understood by each of the wedding guests. Remember, the crowd can range from small children all the way up to elderly grandparents. Save those inside jokes that nobody will understand.

In your best man speech, try to include memorable and amusing stories that perhaps you and the groom have shared together. Or maybe use some stories about the times you shared with the bride and groom as a couple. Just make sure not to tell any stories that might be too embarrassing! Also, remember not to go on too long. Usually a good best man speech will range from 3-7 minutes long.

Before you give your best man speech, make sure you practice it in front of someone. You want this person to give the ok that your funny lines are good to use and that you are using the proper amount of eye contact while speaking. Also, if you tend to forget what you are going to say, then write down the main points on some index cards so you can look at them if needed.

Best man speeches are meant to entertain the guests as well as honor the bride and groom. Don’t be anxious, and try to be yourself. Although speaking in front of large crowds may not be your thing, you can combat that anxiety by being well prepared. Make your next best man speech one to remember!
